BRENDON ENERGY - POWER TO THE PEOPLE
Climate change, soaring energy prices, dealing with nasty dictatorships just because they control oil supplies...these are big problems. Far too big, surely, for a mere community group? Not so! If we want, we can make a difference.
Brendon Energy wants a revolution, not a political one but an energy one. We want to see local energy resources, and local energy infrastructure, owned and operated by and for local people. We can do this, together. We can own our own power sources – an array of solar panels, or a biomass heating system. And the business can grow - the money we earn from one project can be invested in the next one.
Do you want to depend on a huge multi-national utility to supply your energy needs? Do you want all the profits to go to shareholders? Do you want to be powerless while energy bills go up and up? If not then read on....

OUR FIRST PROJECT: At short notice, the Government announced early changes to solar electricity Feed-in Tariffs from 12th December 2011. Despite the difficulties created, we were able to install 123 solar electricity panels (28.9 kWp) on the Children's Centre in Wiveliscombe in time to qualify for the old Feed-in Tariff rates and ensure maximum returns to the local community. Installation photos and further details are on our projects page.
Solar electricity generated to 8th May 2012: 9,279 kWh (units)
Reduced use of conventional power: 4,460 kg less carbon (CO2) emissions
Estimated annual generation: 26,500 kWh per year - enough for 8 homes
COMMUNITY SOLAR POWER STATION LAUNCH: Shareholders, project contributors and guests attended a launch event for our new community-owned solar power station on 28 January. It was a lovely sunny day, the event was covered by local press, radio and TV and all had a great time. See our projects page for more photos from the day.
